About Me
Things I like:
Being a mom, making stuff, running, taking photos, reading, shopping, live theater, old barns, antiques, wine, coffee, good music, fall & winter, singing, hiking, growing stuff, the beach. Oh yeah, and I kinda like to write.
Things I Dislike:
The world is full of beautiful things….but I dislike indifference, phoniness, arrogance, stupidity, violence, people in charge who shouldn’t be, etc. I believe that wisdom is earned, that most of us are fighting private battles, and that we should treat each other with kindness, always, even when we don’t feel like it. I do, however, have an intense dislike for football, probably because I just don’t get it. :0)
I believe everyone is gifted in something. Some of us figure out what that something is; some of us don’t.
I believe my best words have yet to be composed.
Now, the boring stuff:
I was a lecturer in English for over fifteen years, most recently at Missouri University of Science & Technology and Drury University, where I taught everything from composition to creative writing.
I have provided freelance writing for a number of projects including Missouri S&T online and alumni magazines, Missouri S&T Distance & continuing Education marketing brochures, Pi Kappa Alpha 100 Year Anniversary production script, Sam’s Club/ Auto Buying club newsletters, Whistler electronics marketing products, Missouri S&T Alumni brochures, The Oxygen Company, Inc. website, and others.
I am the author of an instructional guide on the novel The Outsiders, published by Teacher’s Discovery in 2005. I have published articles in Common Boundary, American Literary Realism and The Quest. I have won numerous awards for poetry, including the Springfield Writer’s Guild Grand Prize (1998), the Johnson Memorial Grand Prize Award, League of Minnesota Poets (2003) and the William Stafford Award, Washington Poet’s Association (2009). My poems have appeared in Midwest Poetry Review, Potpourri and Writer’s Journal.
I have been writing for about 25 years and I have just completed my first novel.
